Absolutely a book-lover's dream. Don't be fooled: this place is not overrated. It's several floors filled with used and brand new books, plus journals, bags, and quirky gifts. Everything well organized, and even though it's enormous, and I have a mediocre sense of direction, I didn't get lost. You can look up books on computer databases on every floor (or ask at the info desks) and everyone is always willing and able to help you find what you need. It's a very well-oiled machine.
Powell’s City of Books Facts. Powell’s City of Books is roughly 68,000 square feet (6,300 m 2). There is more than 1.6 acres of retail floor space at the bookstore. CNN rated it one of the “coolest” bookstores in the world. In 2002, Powell’s was cited by USA Today as one of America’s 10 best bookstores.
I could have spent days upon days in here; alas, we sufficed with several hours and about 12 books between the two of us (including Christmas gifts for family.) Plus, there is a coffee shop where you can sit and read - either books you've purchased or books you borrow from the shelves - all day long if you want to.Pro Tip: Do not forget to head to the very top floor and ask for a pass to the Rare Book Room. It offers rare, antique, autographed, first edition books - some available for thousands of dollars behind glass cases.
